  2. Winnie feels so good about helping Mae and the tucks because they protected her from the man in the yellow suit, so she feels she must repay them now. Also, she might not want the secret to come out.

  3. I agree with you guys, it's because she feels, "I got them in this mess, now I got to get them out". That is a big part, but there are other explanations, too.
    1) Winnie loves the Tucks. They took her in, were nice to her, trusted her, and made her feel special, as if she's part of something. She WANTS to help Mae because she feels as if Mae is almost her mother. Love made her do it.
    2) Winnie does not want the secret to come out. She understands that the world would be total chaos, and if Mae gets hanged and she will not die, it will be suspicious.

  4. Yeah of Winnie had not insisted on going out side that day or insisted on the water than nothing would have happened but the man in the yellow suite might have found them but they wouldn't have to tell their story and there would have not bean an excuse to bring the constable. So the Tucks could have buried the body or given him a funeral in their yard. Also Winnie likes Jesse and Mae is his mother.
