Chapter 20 Question

The constable is an odd character to me.  At times he seems upset, then tired, and still other times he seems like a pretty easy person to talk to and a reasonable person.
-Describe what kind of person do you think the constable is, use TEXT EVIDENCE to support your answer.

  1. The first sentence of chapter 19 or 18 was "The constable was fat, and he was sleepy." So if he is sleepy maybe he should not be carrying a shotgun, and it said he was fat so maybe that's why his horse was slower. Or maybe his horse was slower because MITY stole a fast horse from the Tucks on purpose? Anyway, the constable sounds lazy and dim-witted. Lazy because if he is fat, he probably sits around all day not doing exercises. Dim-witted because, well... The way he talks, that's it. He seems suspicious of MITY, but still lets him ride ahead. Even though he does not know what MITY plans to do, you would think that he would be suspicious enough to AT LEAST not let MITY ride ahead. He also seems careless. After Mae hit MITY with the shotgun, he just shrugged (I think that it's on page 102). I mean, a woman just hit a man, may have even KILLED HIM, AND THE CONSTABLE WAS WATCHING IT ALL, AND HE JUST SHRUGS. Does *not* sound like a nice person, someone I would want to hang out with.

  2. He's probably just one of those moody people, whos feelings change often;
    when he was first shown in the book he was described as tired, sleepy, and fat, like a very careless person.
    Later on, when the man in yellow in killed, he actually seems to care and know what to do ( though this is likely just because the situation is more serious )
